In vivo Kinetic Biodistribution of Nano‐Sized Outer Membrane Vesicles Derived from Bacteria

Evaluation of kinetic distribution and behaviors of nanoparticles in vivo provides crucial clues into their roles in living organisms. Extracellular vesicles are evolutionary conserved nanoparticles, known to play important biological functions in intercellular, inter‐species, and inter‐kingdom communication. In this study, the first kinetic analysis of the biodistribution of outer membrane vesicles (OMVs)—bacterial extracellular vesicles—with immune‐modulatory functions is performed. OMVs, injected intraperitoneally, spread to the whole mouse body and accumulate in the liver, lung, spleen, and kidney within 3 h of administration. As an early systemic inflammation response, increased levels of TNF‐α and IL‐6 are observed in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. In addition, the number of leukocytes and platelets in the blood is decreased. OMVs and cytokine concentrations, as well as body temperature are gradually decreased 6 h after OMV injection, in concomitance with the formation of eye exudates, and of an increase in ICAM‐1 levels in the lung. Following OMV elimination, most of the inflammatory signs are reverted, 12 h post‐injection. However, leukocytes in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid are increased as a late reaction. Taken together, these results suggest that OMVs are effective mediators of long distance communication in vivo.     

长江荆江河段河势控制工程建设实践与思考

为应对三峡水库蓄水后清水下泄对下游河段特别是荆江河段造成的不利影响，于2007~2011年，在荆江河段先后实施了两个河势控制应急工程项目。两个项目除采用干砌石护坡、水下抛石护坡等传统护岸技术外，还采用了土工格栅护坡、钢丝网石垫护坡、软体排护脚、混凝土铰链排等护岸工程新技术。通过工程的实施，确定了护岸脚槽的合理顶高程，检验了护岸工程新技术在荆江河段治理中的适用性。详细介绍了传统与新技术在护岸工程中的实施情况，可供同类工程参考。     

In situ Measurement of the Adhesion Strength and Effective Elastic Stiffness of Single Soft Micropillar

We report the deformation behavior and mechanical properties of a polymeric micropillar, which measures approximately 10 μm by 30 μm in size by measuring the loading/unloading response using an in situ force measurement system. When the single poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) micropillar was subjected to compression, we observed a periodic wrinkle and global (Euler) buckling at the sidewall. During unloading, we found the pull-off force (adhesion force) to increase for higher values of preloading and also for lower loading/unloading rates. From the slope of the load–displacement curves measured in situ, we calculated the effective elastic stiffness of the PDMS micropillar to be about 2.03 MPa. In addition to the current work, we report that this method can be used more broadly for in situ measurement of the intrinsic mechanical and adhesion properties of polymers and other relatively soft materials.     

Temperature adaptability of the soluble lead flow battery using different solutions of fluoborate,perchlorate, methanesulfonate and trifluoromethanesulfonate

The evaluation of cell's weatherability is of practical interest. To further improve the soluble lead flow battery's weatherability, physiochemical properties of electrolytes containing fluoborate, perchlorate, methanesulfonate and trifluoromethanesulfonate are investigated from ?60 to 50 °C. Activities of CF₃SO₃H and HClO₄ are poor in trifluoromethanesulfonate and perchlorate solutions due to common anion effect. The solubility of lead salt can be improved by increasing temperature, but worsened by increasing acid's content. With the temperature increasing, the conductivity is enhanced, and the viscosity is lowered for four solutions. The same results have been found by increasing acid's content except for CF₃SO₃H. The high energy efficiency can be achieved for cells over ?40–0 °C using fluoborate and perchlorate solutions, 73.2% at ?40 °C and 78.1% at ?30 °C respectively. Over the temperature range of 20–50 °C, the cells with methanesulfonate and trifluoromethanesulfonate solutions have good performance, 77.4% and 73.7% at 50 °C respectively.
